WebThere is a long-standing debate between labeled-line versus and population-coding theories of itch (Ma 2010). The concept of labeled-line coding holds that itch-specific primary afferents or “pruriceptors” transmit information to central ascending sensory neurons that are dedicated to signaling itch sensation. WebIn reality, both place coding and the timing code contribute to pitch perception. At frequencies up to about 4000 Hz, it is clear that both the rate of action potentials and place contribute to our perception of pitch. However, higher frequency sounds are encoded using place cues (Shamma, 2001). Fig.5.10.2.
