If this is the case then the ring gear on the flywheel or flexplate is worn out, or the teeth on the starter motor are worn out. The starter gear does not engage the flywheel. With the starter removed the teeth of the flywheel can be viewed.

Go get a starter from a differant source. Look inside the carton and it should have starter shims, depth rod, and instructions. Follow them. Thats why the teeth are broken,wear and age eventually catches up with parts that work that hard. You will be able to keep your flywheel,you just have to remove it and get your local auto machaine shop to replace the ring gear.

Take the crank sensor out,turn until the missing teeth are visible in the hole,then turn engine and count teeth until you are at the TDC marking on the vibration damper. K.
